Asian Cultural Group Offers Afternoon of Displays, Demonstrations, Performances and More in Solon

As the Asian presence in Northeast Ohio has grown and diversified in Northeast Ohio, it’s offered many more opportunities to explore different cultures. One of those is a new nonprofit called the Silk Road Cultural Collective, founded by filmmaker Johnny Wu, an activist in the Asian community and co-founder of the Cleveland Asian Festival; Anne (Ying) Pu, founder/publisher of the Erie Chinese Journal; and the non-Asian writer/photographer Dan Hanson of clevelandpeople.com, whose mission is to share the stories of all immigrant communities in this area.  The Silk Road Cultural Project aims to preserve, celebrate and share diverse Asian and Eurasian cultures through a variety of public, community events, including performances, workshops, displays, festivals and more.

This weekend they’ll be celebration the Lunar New Year at the Solon Community Center at 35000 Portz Pkwy in Solon, offering an afternoon of performances, demonstrations, displays, including live armor and weapons demonstrations, authentic Tang to Ming Dynasty attire (7th to 17th centuries), cultural reenactments, and stories.
