Asian Armor Heritage Showcase

Who we are...

This is an initiative from the Silk Road Cultural Collective

The Asian Armor Heritage Showcase is a flagship program of the Silk Road Cultural Collective, co-founded by Dan Hanson of ClevelandPeople.com, along with Ying Pu, publisher of Erie Chinese Journal and the award-winning filmmaker Johnny K. Wu – co-founder of the Cleveland Asian Festival, producer of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation‘s One World Day, and CLE 500 2025 honoree. This dynamic experience goes beyond wearing historic Tang through Ming Dynasties armor, featuring live sword cutting demonstrations using safe, visually striking props like bottled water, pool noodles, and tatami mats; interactive sparring with protective gear; and historical techniques that showcase ancient Asian and Eurasian’s sword sharpness and precision – all while prioritizing audience safety and historical accuracy, making it perfect for festivals, corporate events, schools, and community gatherings.

The Asian Armor Heritage Showcase is dedicated to preserving, presenting, and promoting the rich legacy of ancient Asian/Eurasian craftsmanship through immersive exhibitions featuring authentic Tang and Ming dynasty armor. Our mission is to inspire cultural appreciation, deepen historical understanding, and celebrate the beauty of Hanfu or other traditional clothing as well as traditional Asian artistry. Through nationwide collaborations and community partnerships, we strive to make Chinese heritage accessible, engaging, and meaningful for audiences of all ages.

The showcase also offers interactive sparring sessions where audience members can witness traditional swordsmanship movements and even engage with performers in a controlled, safe environment. Protective measures and clear safety protocols are observed at every event to provide an immersive yet secure demonstration of Chinese martial arts heritage.

This blend of spectacle and interaction makes the Asian Armor Heritage Showcase ideal for festivals, Lunar New Year celebrations, school programs, and cultural events seeking education fused with thrilling live action.
